Lieutenant Colonel Aleksey Vershal has been appointed Head of Interpol's National Central Bureau in Belarus. He is 46 years old. Vershal was until recently the deputy head of this institution.

He replaced Colonel Dmitry Medvedev in the position. Medvedev led the National Central Bureau for the past few years, but it was an unfruitful collaboration — Interpol effectively does not interact with Belarus and ignores its requests.
«The declaration of international search is effectively blocked by Interpol. Competent authorities of Western states also often deny the extradition of Belarusian criminals on fabricated grounds, including those who committed drug crimes, serious crimes against persons and property. I know that Russian colleagues also face politically motivated refusals to extradite criminals», — complained Andrey Shved, then Prosecutor General of Belarus, in 2024.
