Where is Volha Samusevich, ex-dean of BSU Journalism Faculty, who repressed students in 2020?
Lizaveta Khmel, former deputy dean for academic affairs and educational innovations, has become the new dean of the BSU Faculty of Journalism. And what happened to her predecessors?
Previously, the post of dean was held by Aleh Belyaev, Candidate of Historical Sciences. In May 2026, information about him mysteriously disappeared from the journalism faculty's website. However, Belyaev is certainly free — he continues to give comments to state media, also acting as a political scientist. He also appears on the "Editors' Club" program, although he has no connection to the media.

And what is Volha Samusevich, Belyaev's predecessor, doing now? In 2020 and afterwards, she became known for her repressions against students who participated in protests, were detained, and served jail time. Many faculty members of the journalism department also served jail time then. And students were expelled from their alma mater.

Now, Belarusian-speaking Volha Samusevich is the Head of the Department of Social Work at the branch of the Russian State Social University in Minsk. She actively celebrates Russia Days, creates a map of the peoples of Russia with students, and, at the invitation of Rossotrudnichestvo, attends events for the preservation of Russian classical opera.
Volha Samusevich was born in 1977. She graduated from the BSU Faculty of Philology (1999) and completed postgraduate studies at the BSU Faculty of Journalism. She defended her Candidate of Sciences dissertation "Belarusian Media in the Logosphere of National Culture (Linguistic Aspect)" in 2003. From 2002 to 2022, she worked at the Faculty of Journalism, serving as dean from 2018 to 2022.
