“We are in shock and confusion.” What is happening at the site of the fire in the house in the center of Minsk
Last night, a fire broke out in a residential building at Lenin Street, 9. The attic and roof caught fire. The blaze was extinguished only at night. What is happening at the fire site since early morning and what local residents are saying, writes Realt.by.

From the outside, looking from the road, it seems that the apartments were not affected, but considering that the fire was extinguished with water for more than 8 hours, repair work will apparently be needed. The area in the courtyard is fenced off; not everyone is allowed in — only residents, but not into the entrances and apartments. After the night, a Red Cross tent remained.
— I went out for a walk, and when I returned, I found the fire already there. I haven't been in the apartment since then, — shares a guy who lives at the end of the building.

10 minutes later, accompanied by rescuers and police, he was finally led to his apartment. He says the dwelling was not damaged, but he is not allowed to stay. He took a few things and an umbrella with him.
— Where will you live?
— Somewhere…

A local elderly resident cannot hold back tears.
— My apartment is on the top floor of the second entrance. I can't help but worry. Everything there is flooded.

Katsya left her house for a walk yesterday around 6:40 PM. When she turned around, she saw smoke coming from the roof and a man from the neighboring entrance calling the firefighters.

— We started talking to him, and he said he smelled something unpleasant and went outside. We didn't expect it to turn into such a fire; we only managed to get the dog out of the house and turn off electrical appliances. Immediately after that, the fire department arrived, and very quickly the entire roof structure caught fire intensely, and the flames began to spread from one entrance to another. Katsya was on site until two in the morning because the area above us kept burning all that time. Then the girl went to stay overnight with a friend.

She lives on the 6th floor, directly under the mansard.
— We are currently in shock and confusion; everything remained in our apartment: expensive equipment, food recently purchased for a long period, all documents. We understand a lot of water was poured in.
Another woman just exited her apartment on the fourth floor, accompanied by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MNS) and the police.
— Water on the floor, like in a swimming pool. All the wallpaper is hanging loose. I can't imagine what it's like for people on the sixth level.

According to her, the fire started in the mansard of the 6th floor. She and her husband smelled smoke, saw one fire truck first, then another.
— The ceilings are wooden, so the fire spread instantly. My husband managed to grab the dog, and we quickly ran out of the entrance. But I had a cat left in my apartment; it hid somewhere. I was screaming, begging to be let in after him. Many thanks to the guy from the MNS — he rescued him for me.
When they will be allowed to return to the house is unknown. People are taking their documents and going to relatives.

A woman from house No. 37 is also waiting for her turn to enter her apartment. She says the source was in the workshop under the arch.
— The utilities are old; everything needs replacement. We were just supposed to have our roof replaced; they even bought the materials — it's lying in the yard. It seems that things will move faster now.

In the courtyard, not only rescuers and police are working, but also Housing and Utilities Services (ZhES) employees are actively cleaning up.
Due to the fire extinguishing efforts, there is currently no water in four houses — on Marx Street, 37 and 39, as well as on Lenin Street, 7 and 9. A drinking water truck is already in the courtyard.
