According to investigative materials, on the night of June 6-7, the man went to Lake Dolgae, where, using a boat and prohibited fishing gear — monofilament nets — he illegally caught fish. During this period, a fishing ban was in effect in the Vitebsk region, so any such activity was considered a violation of environmental legislation.
When the man returned to shore with his catch, he was apprehended by officers of the State Inspectorate for Animal and Plant Protection. An investigative and operational group was called to the scene.
During the inspection, investigators confiscated the boat, fishing nets, and illegally caught fish. A total of 16 fish of various species were found, including bream, crucian carp, tench, and perch. A special ichthyological examination was ordered to accurately determine the damage caused to aquatic biological resources.
According to preliminary estimates, the environmental damage is already valued at more than 5.2 thousand Belarusian rubles.
During the check, it was revealed that the detained man has an official job, but had previously been brought to criminal responsibility for a similar offense — illegal fishing. Additionally, his record included a case of being held liable for using violence against an environmental inspector.
Given that the man had previously been convicted of a similar crime, a criminal case was initiated against him under Part 3 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus — illegal fish extraction committed by a person previously convicted of the same offense.
By order of the prosecutor, the accused has been taken into custody. Investigators are currently continuing the investigation, clarifying all details of the incident, and conducting the necessary procedural actions.
