American athlete Ja'Kobi Tharp set a new world record in the 110m hurdles at the US National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships.

In one of the preliminary heats, the 20-year-old athlete completed the distance in 12.75 seconds. The previous world record holder was his compatriot Aries Merritt: on September 7, 2012, at a tournament in Belgium, he achieved a result of 12.80 seconds. Tharp's personal best before this was 13.01 seconds.
At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the gold medal in this discipline was won by American Grant Holloway, who achieved a result of 12.99 seconds in the final. In the same year, 2024, Ja'Kobi Tharp won the Junior World Championships.
