NATO Sees No Nuclear Weapons in Belarus

NATO intelligence does not record the actual deployment of Russian nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. At the same time, the Alliance warns: the Belarusian army is purposefully being prepared for rapid integration into the Russian military machine, so tactical charges could appear in the country very quickly, Reform.news writes .

A meeting of NATO defense ministers took place in Brussels. This is the last high-level meeting before the summit in July, which will define the Alliance's tasks and plans for the coming years. A Reform.news journalist attended this event.

According to the publication, the word "Belarus" was not mentioned once at the main press conferences and briefings of the defense ministers' meeting. On the sidelines and in the corridors, it was predominantly heard from Belarusian journalists.

Thus, in response to a question from a Reform.news journalist, one high-ranking NATO official said that the Alliance's intelligence sees no signs of Russian nuclear weapons being deployed on Belarusian territory, despite numerous statements from Russian and Belarusian leadership, as well as various exercises on the use of these weapons.

Nevertheless, these exercises indicate that Belarusian servicemen are training to be ready for rapid integration into the Russian military machine, and tactical nuclear weapons could appear in Belarus quite quickly.

Also, according to his assessment, the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus would change nothing militarily and would only be another nuclear threat, to which the Kremlin resorts to distract attention from its defeats on the battlefield.
