Prosecutor General Dmitry Gara commented on EHU and the fate of the university's faculty and students.
"An organization that positions itself as a Belarusian university in exile. In fact, it is an extremist organization that carries out activities detrimental to our state, in fact, subversive activities.
"No one will, of course, indiscriminately hold students, individuals who had some connection to this organization, accountable en masse,"
— Gara stated in an interview with the state TV channel "First Information".
Belarusian authorities declared EHU an "extremist organization" in April 2026. Around 100 students subsequently left the university.
In June, searches and interrogations of EHU students — both current and former — took place.
