The number of fatalities from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has exceeded 4,000 people. According to the latest official data, at least 4,333 people died as a result of the natural disaster, and another 16,740 were injured. In addition, thousands of people are missing. 18,437 people who lost their homes are housed in temporary camps.

Both earthquakes occurred on June 24 with an interval of 39 seconds. The magnitude of the first was 7.2, and the second was 7.5. This was the strongest earthquake in Venezuela in more than a hundred years. The coastal state of La Guaira was most affected, where entire blocks of residential buildings were destroyed.
Search and rescue operations have already been completed, but relatives of the deceased continue to search for their loved ones among the rubble to be able to bury them.
On July 11, another earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred in the center of Caracas. It caused brief panic, and people were evacuated from buildings.
The country's authorities note that mitigating the consequences of the disaster will require significant resources. The United Nations has already appealed for nearly $300 million for humanitarian and reconstruction work.
Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, also called for the unfreezing of the country's foreign assets to finance reconstruction. In particular, she asked the UK to unblock about 30 tons of Venezuelan gold, which is currently under sanctions.
