25-year-old South African national team footballer dies after returning from World Cup
Midfielder Jayden Adams of Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African national team died at the age of 25. The official cause of death has not yet been announced, but local press reports suggest suicide.

On behalf of the footballer's family, his mentor Brendin Johnson spoke. He said that the family is going through a very difficult time with the tragedy and asked to respect their right to privacy. According to him, the death of the young athlete came as a complete shock to everyone who knew him.
Johnson also said that he had spoken with Adams just a few days ago. After returning from the World Cup, the footballer was in good spirits, happy to be home, and making plans for the future. He also wanted to spend more time with his family.
At the 2026 World Cup, Jayden Adams participated in three matches for the South African national team. Last season, he won the African Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.
