Head of the State Border Guard: Latvia is the Main Target of Hybrid Warfare from Belarus
The situation on the eastern border is associated with serious challenges, stated Guntis Pujāts, head of the Latvian State Border Guard, writes Delfi.lv.

According to him, carriers of illegal migrants have also started to act more aggressively, and border guards have to use increasingly harsh measures to detain them. Therefore, the State Border Guard needs broader support from the National Armed Forces.
This year, the State Border Guard prevented 7,600 attempts of illegal crossing of the Belarusian-Latvian border. This is significantly more than in the same period last year.
The head of the SBG characterizes the pressure on the external border as very high and notes that this is caused by several reasons. One of them is Latvia's consistent support for Ukraine and condemnation of Russian aggression. The situation is also influenced by propaganda narratives spread by Russia, and additional risks impact the upcoming Seimas elections.
«The goal is to destabilize the situation, cause dissatisfaction and division in society through alleged inability to cope with these difficulties,» stated Pujāts.
