Minsk Woman Gave Over 50 Thousand Dollars to Fraudsters, Mortgaging Her Apartment, and Registered 15 SIM Cards
A 48-year-old resident of the capital became a victim of multi-stage phone fraud.

Initially, she received a call from a fake intercom service employee who learned the code from an SMS. After that, the Minsk resident was contacted by fake representatives of the SCC (State Control Committee) and the electrical communications oversight inspectorate. They convinced the woman that fraudsters were funding extremist activities and taking out loans on her behalf.
To save the money, the victim took out loans secured by her own apartment for an amount exceeding 50 thousand dollars and gave them to a courier. Also, following the instructions of her handlers, she registered 15 SIM cards in her name.
Operatives detained the messenger — a 27-year-old resident of the Kalinkavichy district, who himself turned out to be a victim of a similar scheme. He managed to take the received money to Russia and hand it over to an unknown person. A criminal case has been initiated. Among those detained is the messenger. Criminal proceedings have been opened against him.
