Roskomnadzor is slowing down the work of the Telegram messenger because, according to Russian authorities, the platform is too slow in blocking anonymous channels. This was announced by Andrey Svintsov, a member of the Russian State Duma Committee on Information Policy, RBC writes .

According to the deputy, Russia would like to completely abandon anonymity on the Internet, which is why Telegram is receiving such "signals". At the same time, Svintsov noted: if the violations are eliminated, the slowdown of the service's operation will stop.
Earlier, media outlets, citing sources in the telecommunications market, reported that Roskomnadzor was already partially restricting access to Telegram. At the same time, Svintsov emphasized that a complete blocking of the messenger in the country is not planned, as it cooperates quite effectively with the governments of various states, but on condition that all legislative requirements are met.
The deputy also reminded that there are currently no grounds for lifting restrictions on WhatsApp. Earlier, in August 2025, Roskomnadzor restricted calls on Telegram and WhatsApp, explaining that the services were used for fraud, extortion, and recruitment for terrorist activities.
In October last year, the agency announced additional measures to partially restrict WhatsApp's operations. In December, massive disruptions in its work were recorded, after which Roskomnadzor stated that due to violations of the law, the service could face a complete blocking. Later, the company announced its intention to fight for its audience in Russia.
