Two More Stations — «Kyiv Square» and «Polytechnic» — Removed from Minsk Metro Construction Project
Earlier, «Profsoyuzov» (Trade Unions) on Pobediteley Avenue was abandoned.

Significant changes have occurred in the development plans of the capital's subway: the fourth line, which is supposed to be a circular line, has lost two stations. Although this has not been officially reported, the reduction of the project is evidenced by the new Minsk metro development scheme.
Initially, 17 stations were planned for the future fourth line of the Minsk Metro, six of which were to be transfer stations to other lines. In 2018, the Minsk City Executive Committee even approved the official names of all stations on the circular line.
However, in a recent article by the newspaper «SB. Belarus Today», dedicated to the development of the transport network, only 15 stations are mentioned. At the same time, the state publication does not emphasize that two stations were excluded from the project.

The new development scheme for the capital's metro, attached to the article, makes it clear that the «Kyiv Square» and «Polytechnic» stations have disappeared from the fourth line project.
The «Kyiv Square» metro station was planned to be built at the intersection of Orlovskaya and Gaya streets, on the section between «Maksim Bahdanovich» station (transfer to «Park Druzhby Narodov» station of the third line) and «Staravilienski Shlyakh».
The second, «Polytechnic», was supposed to appear at the intersection of Surhanava and Yakub Kolas streets — between «Maksim Bahdanovich» and «Drukarskaya» stations (transfer to «Akademiya Navuk»).
How plans changed

Previous scheme for the development of the Minsk Metro with «Kyiv Square» and «Polytechnic» stations on the fourth circular line.
Back in May 2025, Andrei Ilarionau, chief engineer of the «Stalichny Transport i Suvyaz» (Capital Transport and Communications) enterprise, stated that the fourth line would consist of 17 stations. But already in October, Georgiy Protasov, chief engineer of «Minskmetroproyekt», reported that only 16 stations would remain on the line, without specifying which one was abandoned.
Apparently, the «Kyiv Square» station was the first «victim». According to Protasov, six stations are planned to be built on the first section — from «Maksim Bahdanovich» to «Tuchynka» — although according to previous schemes, there were seven.
At the same time, in October 2025, Andrei Drob, press secretary of the Minsk Metro, confirmed that the fourth line project is still being finalized. According to him, the northern and western sections have already been calculated, and the new line will most likely not exactly coincide with the second transport ring, as previously assumed.
Contradictory plans
It is reported that preparations for the construction of the fourth line will begin next year, and the first section will run exactly from «Maksim Bahdanovich» station towards Vyasnyanka. However, the very first planned station after the transfer hub — «Kyiv Square» — will be skipped. The next station to be built after «Maksim Bahdanovich» station will immediately be «Staravilienski Shlyakh».
Currently, the area at the intersection of Orlovskaya and Gaya streets, where the «Kyiv Square» station was supposed to be, is dominated by cottage-style housing, which could serve as a formal justification for «optimization».
However, urban development plans for this area make this decision illogical. According to the detailed plan (DPP) presented last year, this territory is awaiting radical reconstruction. Instead of cottage-style housing, multi-story buildings, parking lots, and multi-functional centers will rise along the expanded Orlovskaya highway. As a result, the population of the area will grow from 7 thousand to almost 12 thousand people. It appears that the residents of the new district will be left without the promised metro.
This is not the first instance of reducing Minsk Metro line projects. Earlier, it became known about the cancellation of the «Profsoyuznaya» (Trade Unions) station on the third line, which was planned to be built near the intersection of Melnikaite and Pobediteley Avenue. At that time, the city authorities explained this by «revisiting feasibility» and the proximity of neighboring stations.
