Gabrielius Landsbergis: Tsikhanouskaya never gave up, never was afraid
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania shared this opinion on Facebook.
Landsbergis wrote that he is glad Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has been offered protection in Poland, but he is sad that the Lithuanian government decided to abandon this important role.
"Sviatlana came to Lithuania in 2020 and immediately began her work. I had the privilege of working alongside her and saw a fighter. She never gave up, never was afraid, always remained clearly focused on her goal – the freedom of her nation.
And it was never easy. There were Western partners who needed convincing, there were Belarusians who were not always ready to trust her leadership. But I saw how tirelessly she convinced Western capitals not to turn away from the suffering of the Belarusian people. I witnessed her building coalitions within the Belarusian opposition. There was not a single missed conference or meeting. The voice of the free Belarusian people always rang out. She was that voice," he wrote.
The politician says that Tsikhanouskaya, wherever she went, she mentioned Lithuania with dignity.
"After her speech in the parliament of one of the European countries, a high-ranking diplomat jokingly said that in Sviatlana, we have an invaluable Lithuanian ambassador. After her speech, the MPs of that parliament thought not only about the people of Belarus but also about my country – Lithuania. This page of my country's history is concluding. I am glad that it will be continued in Europe, in Poland – for Sviatlana and for all fighters for democracy. I am grateful for this, I wish her all the best in her future mission for Belarus, and I will forever remain grateful for everything she has done for Lithuania," he added.

Беларусь наша сiнявокая i светлавокая. I лiдарка наша iмём Святлана, што паходзiць ад слова свет. А, крамя таго, свет у нашай мове гэта яшчэ i мiр, усяленная, космас.
Усё тут у нас сышлося для лепшай долi. Асталось толькi пажадаць ёй поспехау у працы на карысць Беларусi. I трошкi паспачуваць, бо цяжкую ношу яна узвалiла на свае плечы.
P.S. I, асабiста маё пажаданне. Нiкому з акружэння не давярай. Чым вышэй падымаецца чалавец, тым больш у яго льсцiуцау i нядобразычліуцау. I тут, галоунае, не расслабляцца.
