The founder and songwriter of Modern Talking was a guest on the German-language podcast "Hopf & Kettner", where he stated that he does not want Ukraine to win, because, in his opinion, Vladimir Putin will not be able to lose so easily. According to Bohlen, Ukraine's victory would be the worst-case scenario, writes Delfi.lv.
"I'm increasingly scared. Tornado planes fly over Hamburg and make a terrible noise... Everything in my kitchen is shaking... And Germany's most popular politician, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, stands with Ukrainian arms manufacturers and celebrates the creation of joint ventures. I don't know if this is right."
He also stated: "Before, everyone talked about peace, and now they talk about war."
According to Bohlen, the German authorities are misjudging the situation. "And the Minister of Finance constantly uses the word 'war' when talking about Ukraine, claiming that it will defeat Russia... And I think: don't they know history?"
The musician spoke about his phone conversations with politician Friedrich Merz: "I noticed that he firmly believes in Ukraine's ability to win. But he draws no conclusions about what will happen next. Do they think Russia and Putin will agree to this? No. They have hundreds of nuclear bombs, each almost capable of destroying Germany." Bohlen did not mention the causes of the war, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the strikes on Ukrainian cities. According to him, the Russian leadership will not accept defeat and could use nuclear weapons. "That would be the worst-case scenario. If Ukraine wins, it will likely lead to a world war."
At the same time, he stated that Germany has nothing to fear from Russia.
"Russia has so much territory that they don't know what to do with it. And people think they will come here... But there's nothing here in Germany, no natural resources. What do they want to do with Germany? It's pointless."
