Starting from February 23, speed restrictions will be introduced for internet on unlimited traffic plans in Belarus. Upon exceeding the 30 GB per month threshold, the speed will be reduced to 1 Mbit/s.

The Ministry of Communications explained why such a decision was made, writes Office Life.
The topic sparked heated discussions on social networks. The Ministry stated that they expected such a reaction, primarily from subscribers who use large volumes of traffic. This refers to thousands of gigabytes per month, exceeding average consumption by at least hundreds of times. Such consumption is typical for fixed-line network subscribers. At the same time, unlimited tariffs, the Ministry emphasized, "are characteristic of CIS countries, but are completely absent in European countries."
The Ministry noted that most users are unlikely to notice the changes, as they consume significantly less than 30 GB per month.
"If you spend less than 30 GB per month (which is the majority of users without a TikTok addiction), you won't notice anything. However, if you download terabytes — you'll have to either put up with 1 Mbit/s
The Ministry stressed that mobile internet will not be disconnected after exhausting the limit, and its speed will only decrease to 1 Mbit/s.
This will allow users to use messengers, listen to music, and browse social networks, although in the latter case, photos might load slower. However, viewing high-quality video and using "heavy" online games will be difficult.
The Ministry also believes that the innovations protect consumer rights, as an unlimited tariff "should work, not just be considered so."
Previously, operators on "unlimited" plans could reduce speed as they pleased, sometimes even to 256 Kbit/s, where even the weather wouldn't load. Now a threshold has been set: operators are prohibited from lowering the speed below 1 Mbit/s.
The new rules also allow operators to offer additional traffic volumes or extended periods of "unlimited" speed.
