On the frosty night of January 20, a house caught fire in the village of Mars, Dzyarzhynsk district. Only the owner, Katsiaryna Viktarauna, who works on the railway and manages her household independently, was in it. Everything could have ended tragically if not for the pet, writes Dzr.by.
A similar fire already happened to the woman in 2018, then it also started from the stove. This time the reason was the lack of a fireproof clearance: the stove was installed too close to the wall.
Katsiaryna, tired from a six-day work week, fell asleep late and did not hear the smoke spreading through the house. The autonomous fire alarm also did not work — the batteries were dead. The woman's life was saved thanks to her cat Martin, who woke her up at night not even by meowing, but by yelling, and even bit his owner's hands.
In a panic, Katsiaryna opened the windows, but then realized it was dangerous and closed them. Instead of 101, she mistakenly dialed 104, but the call was quickly redirected to the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Firefighters arrived in 10-15 minutes and saved the house — only one wall was seriously damaged.
After the fire, the cat decided to hide under the floor, being in shock. To rescue him, a neighbor's help was needed to lift the floor. Martin was scared, but alive. Interestingly, the owner had previously taken in a kitten that had been thrown out on the street, and now the cat saved its owner.
Besides Martin, she also has another cat and a dog.
