U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he decided to postpone strikes on Iranian energy facilities for another 10 days to hold talks with Tehran. According to him, the decision was made at the request of the Iranian government, but Tehran denies having asked for it, writes the BBC.

«At the request of the Iranian government […] I am suspending the period of power plant destruction for 10 days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, 8:00 PM Eastern Time [three AM April 7 in Minsk — NN]. Negotiations are ongoing, and, despite erroneous statements by fake media and other sources, they are going very well,» he wrote on his social network Truth Social.

Last weekend, Trump threatened to «destroy» Iranian power plants if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. Iranian authorities responded by stating that they would completely block the strait for navigation.

On Monday, Trump said that the U.S. and Iran are conducting «productive talks» about ending the war, and ordered a five-day suspension of strikes on Iranian energy facilities.

On Wednesday, it became known that the U.S. had given Iran a list of 15 conditions on which they were willing to agree to end the conflict, but Tehran rejected them, offering its own five-point plan in return.

It is still unclear with whom exactly in Iran the U.S. is conducting a dialogue. Earlier, Trump said that Iranian officials deny that negotiations are taking place, fearing being killed.

«They are negotiating and very much want to make a deal. But they are afraid to talk about it because they believe they will be killed by their own compatriots. They are also afraid that we will kill them,» he told reporters.

Iran's "Gift"

Shortly after Trump announced that strikes on Iran's energy sector were being postponed, oil prices on world markets began to fall. Throughout Thursday, they continued to rise — reflecting fears that the continuation of the war would further cause an oil shortage.

On Thursday, during a meeting of the American government, Trump also revealed what gift the Iranian authorities had given him. Earlier, the head of the White House announced that the Iranians had given him something valuable, but did not specify what exactly.

Trump was asked about the progress of negotiations with Iran — and he replied that Tehran wants to demonstrate the seriousness of its intentions. He further stated that Tehran two or three days ago promised him to allow eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a "gift," and these tankers indeed passed.

«And I said: "Well, we are certainly dealing with the right people." And in fact, they apologized for something and said they would let two more ships pass. So in the end, we had ten ships,» Trump said.
