Private art collection sold at auction for almost $400 million. Works by our compatriots were also included
Sotheby's auction house held an auction in London for the collection of British businessman and Tottenham Hotspur football club owner Joe Lewis. Over two days of sales, the artworks were realized for $392.6 million, significantly exceeding the collection's preliminary estimate of over $268 million, writes Office Life.

The collection included iconic works of European figurative art from the late XIX — XX century, including works by Gustav Klimt, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, René Magritte, Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutine, and Kazimir Malevich.
The most expensive lot was Amedeo Modigliani's painting "Reclining Nude", which was sold for $60.6 million. This is a record sum for the artist's works at auctions in Europe.

"Portrait of a Boy in Blue" by Chaim Soutine found a new owner for $3.1 million, and Kazimir Malevich's gouache "Head of a Peasant" was sold for $3.9 million — almost twice the upper limit of its preliminary estimate.
