Schoolchild from Belarus to participate in international expedition to the North Pole on an atomic icebreaker

A schoolchild from Belarus will participate in an international expedition to the North Pole on an atomic icebreaker, BelTA was informed by the press service of the country office of the state corporation "Rosatom" in Belarus.

In Moscow, at the "ATOM" museum, on June 23, the results of the seventh season of the international scientific and educational project "Icebreaker of Knowledge," organized with the support of "Rosatom," were summarized. The names of the winners were announced, who will embark on an expedition to the North Pole on the atomic icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" in August. Among them is Belarusian schoolchild Tikhon Karnyaenka, a student of Gymnasium No. 1 in Vitebsk named after Zhores Alferov.

"The Icebreaker of Knowledge is a scientific and educational platform that gives every participant a chance not only to visit the Arctic but also to learn a lot about nuclear energy, high technologies in general, and communicate with "Rosatom" specialists. I hope to gain a great deal of knowledge and experience. The mission of representing Belarus in the upcoming expedition is a great honor and responsibility for me," he noted.

In the international track of the competition, about 5,000 talented schoolchildren aged 14 to 16 from Belarus, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Hungary, Vietnam, Armenia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Namibia, Rwanda, Serbia, Tanzania, Turkey, Uzbekistan, South Africa competed for the opportunity to join the unique Arctic expedition.

A record number of applications for participation came from Kazakhstan (945 participants), Kyrgyzstan (827 participants), and Belarus (464 participants).

The international selection started on May 5 and took place in three stages.

The works of the finalists were evaluated by an international jury, which included representatives of the nuclear industry, science, education, the Arctic agenda, and scientific communications.

On board the atomic icebreaker, a rich scientific and educational program is planned with the participation of Russian and foreign experts from the nuclear industry: lectures, master classes, scientific experiments, and other interactive events.
