Authorities Still Hope for $2.5bln Privatization Plan

The sum is required to receive EurAsEC loan.

The Belarusian government’s privatization plan for 2012 has not been scrapped, Deputy Prime Minister Siarhiej Rumas told reporters in Minsk on Thursday.

“In accordance with the government’s plan, we should receive $2.5 billion in privatization revenues this year,” said Mr. Rumas. “No one has revoked this plan.”

The Council of Ministers, the State Property Committee and the regional governments work hard to ensure that the target is met, he said.

“Many privatization projects are in the pipeline. Time will show which of them will be completed this year.”

In addition, the privatization of $2.5 billion worth of government-owned assets is one of the requirements that Belarus should fulfill to get another loan tranche from the Anti-crisis Fund of the Eurasian Economic Community, Mr. Rumas added.
