DPRK Showed Its First Nuclear Submarine, But Experts Don't Believe in Its Authenticity

North Korea announced the creation of its own atomic submarine, whose dimensions are comparable to the latest American counterparts. The country's leader, Kim Jong Un, personally inspected the construction, but military analysts noticed many strange details.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the new submarine has a displacement of 8700 tons. This makes it a giant, close in class to American Virginia-class attack submarines. Kim Jong Un, during a visit to the shipyard, emphasized that nuclear armament of the naval forces is "an urgent task" due to threats from the United States and South Korea.

In addition to the submarine, Pyongyang reported successful tests of anti-aircraft missiles, which reportedly hit targets at a distance of 200 kilometers.

The published footage sparked a wave of skepticism among monitoring groups and military experts.

In the photos, the submarine's hull looks too smooth. There are no visible welding seams on it, which inevitably arise during the construction of such large-scale metal objects. This led to the assumption that it is a full-scale mock-up.

Creating a compact nuclear reactor for a submarine is one of the most complex engineering tasks. Until now, only six countries possessed such technologies (USA, Russia, China, France, Great Britain, and India).

Currently, most analysts lean towards the idea that Pyongyang once again used props to boost its own authority and intimidate neighbors.

But if the DPRK truly manages to launch a nuclear submarine, it will radically change the balance of power in the region. Unlike diesel submarines, nuclear ones can remain underwater for months, making them almost undetectable by systems and allowing them to strike from any point in the ocean.
