Customs duties will be 10% starting February 1st and will increase to 25% starting June 1st. They will, as announced, remain in effect until a full deal for the "purchase" of Greenland is concluded.

Trump reiterated that the US needs to own Greenland for national security purposes and to prevent its capture by Russia or China. He also stated that he is ready for negotiations with Denmark and other countries against which tariffs have been imposed.
In response, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen urged the US to stop the threats, and leaders of European states emphasized that only Copenhagen and the residents of Greenland can decide the fate of the island.
Denmark has deployed its units to Greenland for training purposes and is increasing the number of aircraft, ships, and military personnel on the island and in its waters. Military forces from Norway, Germany, France, and Great Britain are set to join them.
