Former Police Officer Sentenced for Desire to Fight in Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment. Faced up to 15 Years in Prison
Ivan Voinau, a 30-year-old Minsk resident and former police officer, has been imprisoned on charges related to the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment. He was accused under three serious criminal articles.

Ivan Voinau is 30 years old. In 2011, he started his first job at the "Holatsk" farm in the Pukhavichy district. Later he moved to MTZ (Minsk Tractor Works).
According to Belpol, from 2014 to 2017, Voinau worked in the Zavodski District Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Protection Department in Minsk. He rose from cadet to police sergeant in the detention unit but was eventually dismissed with the phrasing "for systematic non-compliance with contract terms." Later, Ivan returned to the Minsk Tractor Works.
According to human rights defenders, the former security officer was arrested around August 2025. Initially, Voinau was held in the KGB pre-trial detention center, and later transferred to Minsk pre-trial detention center No. 1. The persecution of the man is linked to his alleged plans to join Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine.
Voinau was tried in the Minsk City Court. The indictment suggests that he did not manage to join the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment: he was convicted for preparing for mercenary activity (Part 1, Art. 13 and Part 1, Art. 361-3), preparing to participate in a terrorist organization (Part 1, Art. 13 and Part 2, Art. 290-5), and attempted treason (Part 1, Art. 14 and Part 1, Art. 356).
Ivan faced up to 15 years of imprisonment. The exact term of Voinau's sentence remains unknown for now. He is currently in a penal colony.
