According to the driver, he fell asleep at the wheel and woke up only before the roundabout, when it was already too late to avoid the accident. There were 48 people on the bus, including 47 passengers. As a result of the accident, 14 passengers were taken to hospitals, 13 of whom sustained injuries of varying severity. There was no threat to the lives of the injured.

A check showed that the driver was sober. He admitted his guilt and stated that he knew the route and the speed limit well, as he had driven it many times before.

Initially, the man was taken into custody, but in March 2026, he was released on bail of 30,000 zlotys. He was also prohibited from leaving Poland, and his passport was confiscated.

He had no previous criminal record. For negligently causing an accident with injuries, he could face up to five years in prison.
