Russian PMC fighter kidnapped a war correspondent who wrote about their company and held him in a buried coffin

Roman Semyonov (Samurai), a war correspondent for the magazine "Union of Nationalities", was forcibly taken to Belgorod Oblast, where he was held under guard and tortured.

The Kursk Garrison Military Court sentenced Ivan Timokhov (call sign "Timokha"), a fighter of the "Yastrab" PMC, to 5 years in a strict regime penal colony. He was found guilty of exceeding official powers with the use of torture, writes "Astra".

According to the investigation, in the autumn of 2024, Timokhov acted on the orders of the leadership.

Roman Semyonov (Samurai), a war correspondent for the magazine "Union of Nationalities", was forcibly taken to Belgorod Oblast, where he was held under guard and tortured. At some point, he was placed in a "coffin" buried in the ground — a wooden structure where he spent 12 days.

Semyonov himself says that he was kidnapped near the metro in St. Petersburg. He links this to an investigation into the PMC's activities. According to him, other people are also involved in the crime, but they have not been punished.

Timokhov pleaded guilty and entered into a deal with the investigation, giving testimony against the PMC founder Alexei Marushchenko. He has been under arrest since February 2025 and is facing a number of serious charges — from fraud to organizing violent crimes.
