Minsk Man Found a Doppelganger Online to Answer for His Violations

A 51-year-old man devised a cunning scheme to systematically avoid responsibility for his actions.

He found a person online who resembled him, and then memorized the surname, first name, patronymic, and date of birth of the stranger, Minsk-News reports.

Later, the 'doppelganger's' passport also became publicly available, which the man photographed on his phone to show a photo of someone else's document if necessary.

In December, the Minsk resident crossed the roadway in an improper place. Traffic police officers noticed this and issued him an official warning. To avoid responsibility, the violator provided someone else's details.

Just three days later, he was traveling on public transport without paying. When drawing up the report, he again used someone else's identity. Minsktrans employees entered these details into the document.

The true owner of the details learned about the illegal prosecution and contacted the police and the prosecutor's office. Officers quickly found the suspect, and another criminal case was initiated against him.

— The accused is officially unemployed, he was previously brought to criminal responsibility nine times, and has an unexpunged and unpardoned criminal record as established by law, — commented Alexander Mazanik, Deputy Prosecutor of the Leninsky District.

He faces up to two years of imprisonment.
