Nausėda: I believe that one day the democratic forces of our neighbours — Belarusians — will also prevail

During a mass at the Cathedral Basilica in Vilnius, dedicated to the anniversary of the 1863-1864 uprising, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that the efforts of the rebels opened the way for new forms of resistance, and the tradition of freedom forever separated Lithuanians, Poles, Ukrainians, and Belarusians from Russia, writes LRT.

Nausėda emphasized that the example of Ukraine shows that the aspiration for freedom cannot be overcome.

"It is the inherited tradition of freedom that forever separated our peoples — Lithuanians, Poles, Ukrainians, Belarusians — from Russia, which made every effort but could never destroy this invisible, yet extremely strong border," Nausėda stated.

According to the president, the desire for freedom accompanied their ancestors from one uprising to another, helping them to survive new waves of repression, forced indoctrination, and the destruction of national identity. He said that the same commitment to freedom remains to this day.

"Today, we see this most clearly in Ukraine's struggle. (...) The example of Ukraine most clearly shows that a true, sincere desire for freedom cannot be broken. Once it erupts as a powerful force, it leaves an unforgettable mark in the hearts and minds of people. Murders, repressions, and propaganda pressure only further unite, strengthen the determination to resist, and bring victory closer. As I believe, one day the democratic forces of our neighbours — Belarusians — will also prevail," Nausėda emphasized.

Ведаеш, it didn’t last forever, but it lasted.
