Minsk Metro explained why clocks count time from train departure, not until its arrival

The press service of the Minsk Metro answered a question that almost every passenger has asked at least once: why do electronic display boards at stations count time from the moment the previous train departed, and not until the next one arrives?

As it turned out, these clocks — so-called interval clocks — are intended not for passengers, but primarily for train drivers. It is important for them to know exactly when the previous train left the station in order to depart on time themselves and strictly adhere to the schedule.

The metro noted that interval clocks are a tool that guarantees the safety and accuracy of train movements. Guided by them, a driver can not only avoid delays during passenger boarding and alighting, but also adjust the movement: if the train is late — speed up, and if the distance to the previous train becomes too small — wait to maintain a safe interval.

The press service did not explain why there are no separate display boards at stations showing passengers how much time is left until the next train. At the same time, some users suggested installing additional screens — following the example of other metros.

The discussion in social networks showed that opinions on this matter are divided. Some consider such information very convenient, while others are convinced that it will change nothing: they say, if a person has already descended into the metro, they will still go, regardless of whether they have to wait two minutes or ten.
