Mojtaba Khamenei Officially Becomes Supreme Leader of Iran

The second son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei — 56-year-old Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei — has become the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. This was reported by Iran's state agency Fars, citing the Assembly of Experts.

"At today's extraordinary session, based on a decisive majority vote of representatives, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (may God preserve him) is appointed and declared the third leader of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the report states.

Mojtaba Khamenei is a Shiite cleric who holds significant influence in Iranian political and religious circles. For a long time, he held important positions in the Supreme Leader's administration and closely collaborated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to reports, the Assembly of Experts elected Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader on March 8. Earlier, Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri, a member of the council, announced that an agreement had been reached on the candidate.
