The risk of Nipah virus spreading in Belarus is minimal, and no cases of the disease caused by this virus have been recorded in Belarus.
The World Health Organization classifies the Nipah virus as a high-risk pathogen with epidemic potential. The disease caused by this virus can manifest differently in humans — from an asymptomatic state to rapidly developing acute forms.
As a preventative measure, the Ministry of Health recommends to tourists traveling to countries in Southeast Asia and Africa:
- — avoid contact with sick animals, especially with fruit bats and bats;
- — avoid close physical contact with people who show signs of infectious diseases;
- — thoroughly wash hands with soap and use antiseptic agents;
- — wash fruits and vegetables before consumption;
- — avoid consuming water from unverified sources
In case symptoms of the disease appear, it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor.
