GUR revealed details of the staged death of the RDC commander, for which it received 500 thousand dollars from the assassination customers
The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) revealed details of a special operation during which the death of Denis Kapustin, commander of the «Russian Volunteer Corps», was staged. To convince Russian special services, a video recording of a drone strike on a minibus was made, for which, as the GUR claims, they received half a million dollars.
The official GUR statement says that the purpose of the complex multi-stage special operation was to preserve the life of the RDC commander and expose the enemy's intelligence network. The operation was carried out by the GUR special forces «Timur's Special Unit».
To support the legend of Kapustin's death, Ukrainian intelligence officers created a video recording of two attack drones at work.
«The first drone flew into a minibus, in which Kapustin was allegedly located, the second filmed the «consequences of the strike» — a burning car,» — stated the Ukrainian intelligence report.
According to GUR, the clients in the Russian special services believed the provided video and paid for the «order».
«They paid Ukrainian intelligence officers for the «order» — half a million dollars, which will significantly strengthen the combat capabilities of the GUR special forces,» — noted the agency.
Recall, on December 27, 2025, a message appeared in the official channels of the RDC stating that Commander Denis «WhiteRex» Kapustin died on the Zaporizhzhia front during a combat mission.
However, on January 1, 2026, the GUR published a video in which Kapustin appeared alive alongside intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov. It was then revealed that his death was part of a special operation to thwart a real assassination attempt on his life.
